As Mr. Gao Feng said, during Macron’s visit to China, the heads of both states forged important consensus to reinforce their concord in development strategies within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and enhance their economic and trade cooperation. President Macron had made it clear to President Xi Jinping that France would send a delegation of senior government officials and a large corporate delegation to the first CIIE taking place in Shanghai in this November as a show of support to the expo. During his visit, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the Council of French-Chinese Enterprises and convened its inaugural meeting and first conference. The heads of both states met with business representatives and expected the enterprises from both countries to make the best of this important platform, play to their complementary advantages, enhance their exchanges and advance the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. They also signed the memorandum of understanding on cooperation on silver economy to enhance communication of policies, exchange of experts and trade and investment cooperation in this area.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and France, the two countries have been making steady progress in economic and trade cooperation. In March 2014, President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to France, ushering in a new era for their already solid and enduring strategic partnership. Since then, the bilateral economic and trade ties have been in a phase of hyper-growth, contributing to the emergence of a comprehensive, extensive and multilevel framework of reciprocity. From January to November, 2017, the bilateral trade volume reached US$ 48.87 billion, up by 15.4% over the previous year. Specifically, China’s exports to France reached US$ 24.75 billion, up by 11.2% over the previous year, and its imports recorded US$ 24.12 billion, up by 20.1% on a y-o-y basis. As of the end of last November, the actual investment from French enterprises in China numbered US$ 16.46 billion, while the total investment of Chinese counterparties in France hit US$ 18.69 billion.

Mr. Gao Feng also revealed that Chinese and French enterprises signed a wealth of business agreements in nuclear energy, aerospace, endowment, aviation, environmental protection, finance, comprehensive utilization of energy, etc., with a total contractual value of around US$ 20 billion. They are a full manifestation of the strategic and diversified bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. We will work with France to implement the important consensuses and positive results in economy and trade achieved by the heads of both states during the visit and push the reciprocal cooperation between the two countries to a new high in the new era.
