Hefei coal industry design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., a state-owned enterprise in Anhui Province, is a class a survey and design unit and a national high-tech enterprise. The Institute was established in Shanghai in March 1953 and moved from Shanghai to Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province in 1964, renamed East China coal mine design and Research Institute. In 1970, Huadong Design Institute was revoked and relocated to Anhui Province. It was one of the eight design institutes directly under the former Ministry of coal. In 1998, the Ministry of coal was revoked and transferred to Anhui Province.
