The Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, founded by Zhang Jian, who was the Number One Scholar in the late Qing Dynasty in 1911, is a provincial comprehensive teaching hospital. It is a high-level medical service center in the north of the Yangtze River Delta and the coastal economic belt with strong regional influence recognized by Jiangsu Provincial Health Commission. It is also a high-level provincial comprehensive medical center. It was certified as a first-class comprehensive hospital by the Chinese Ministry of Health in 1994 and was identified as one of the Hospital of International Assistance Network Center in 1998. With 2,210 beds, the old area of this hospital is next to Haohe River, a national 5A scenic spot, providing a beautiful environment for patients. The new area of this hospital, located in the Nantong Central Innovation Zone, will contain 2,500 beds. The construction of these new buildings was started on May 8th, 2020, and it is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of 2023. In 2020, 2.1 million patients were diagnosed and treated, 110 thousand patients were discharged, and 56 thousand operations were conducted in this hospital. There are 3300 staff, among whom are over 270 staff with senior titles, 24 staff with the State Council Special Expert allowance, and over 302 staff as supervisors of doctoral and master students.

After several years of hard work, the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University ranked the 96th in the 2019 National Hospital Science and Technology Volume Ranking List released by the Chinese Academy of Medical Science, entering into the top 100 hospitals. Also, our hospital ranked the sixth in Jiangsu province 2018 public hospital performance evaluation as the first in provincial management hospitals.

 The Hand Surgery Department of this hospital is the Provincial Clinical Medical Research Center. The Neurological Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center is one of the ten Clinical Medical Centers of Jiangsu province’s project of “Strengthening Health through Science and Education”. The Health and Disease Management Center is the Provincial Center for Physical Examination and Quality control. Hand Surgery, Clinical Laboratory, Hematology and Ophthalmology are the key medical disciplines of the provincial project. This hospital was certified as one of the first batches of stem cell clinical research institutions by the National Health and Family Planning Commission. It is known as the National Advanced Stroke Center, the National Chest Pain Center, the National Heart Failure Center, the National Atrial Fibrillation Center, the Cardiogenic Stroke Prevention and Treatment Base identified by the Stroke Prevention and Treatment Committee of the National Health Commission, the Provincial Guidance Center of Maternal Emergency and Severe Disease Treatment, the Provincial Emergency and Severe Disease Treatment Center and the Provincial Trauma Treatment Center, which shows our prominent emergency treatment ability.

There are 45 “333 project” -supported experts, 3 distinguished medical experts of Jiangsu Province, 2 medical innovation teams of “Science & Teaching Assisted Health Project”, 2 key medical talents, and 84 staff funded by the “Six Talent Peaks” project of Jiangsu Province. There are 463 staff as members of specialization branches and medical groups of academies at the national level, among whom is a professor as the vice chairman of the osteology branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and 147 staff as vice chairman of provincial academies and assistant directors of specialization association, among whom are 33 members of the provincial medical association, 6 chairmen of special branches of provincial medical association and 2 chairman-designate.
