Introduction of People’s Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous

Established in 1971, People’s Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is a  first-rate comprehensive hospital. In 1971, the hospital was transferred to Ningxia Medical College as an affiliated hospital, and then was reestablished as a new hospital—People’s Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on the basis of the current Xixia branch hospital. The hospital became the First Affiliated Hospital and the First Clinical Medical College of the Northwest Minzu University in the year of 2013 and became the Affiliated Hospital and the Third Clinical Medical College of the Ningxia Medical University in the year of 2017. It is the core unit of the medical group of People’s Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and was further approved by the Internet hospital in July 2019.

As a collection of medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, rehabilitation, health care and first aid, People’s Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region covers an area of 400,000 square meters with a construction area of 275,000 square meters, and it is composed of five branches, namely, the General Hospital, the Xixia Branch Hospital, the Ningxia Emergency Medical Centre, the Ningixa Eye Hospital and the Ningnan Branch Hospital. There are 2400 beds and 3399 working personnel in all. Among them more than two third of working personnel are professionals and technical personnel, 584 workers are senior professional clinical personnel, 178 workers are professors and associate professors, more than 70 workers are masters or doctoral supervisors, 44 workers receive special allowances from the state council and the government of the autonomous region, 50 elites are granted by well-known projects, such as ‘New Century Talent Project’ ,‘Hundred Talents Plan’, etc.

Through reorganization and Optimization, there are 17 administration divisions, 77 management groups, 12 supportive groups. 43 clinical disciplines, 277 diagnosis and treatment groups, 87 nursing wards, 14 diagnosis and treatment centers, laboratory and the institute in the hospital.Ningxia Eye Hospital and Clinical Medical Test Diagnostic Center are key specialized departments, and Ningxia Cataract, Ophthalmology and Optometry Treatment Center is the provincial center. Thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics, kidney disease, infectious disease and liver and spleen and pancreatic surgery are key specialized departments in the hospital. The hospital also works as a supporting department for Ningxia Surgery Academician Workstation and Ophthalmology Academician Workstation. The hospital was recognized as the official quality control center (QCC) in 8 medical fields in provincial level. It also plays an essential role in social medical care assistance and emergent public health events for public welfare servicesin Ningxia and its surrounding provinces like Shanxi, Gansu and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. These areas contains more than 13 million people in total. In 2018, the hospital has completed the goals of 2 million hospital visits, 99,900inpatients, 32,000 surgeries, and an average length of stay of 9.3 days. The patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction both exceed90%.

The hospital also takes the responsibility of training resident doctors. It is in the first group of training bases nationwide and acts as the national employment demonstration base for college graduates. Additionally, it is the educational base of stroke screening and prevention and responsible for the practical skill examination of resident doctors and medical students.

In the past 5 years, we have got more than 466 research projects and got research funds of more than 40 million yuan, which included 21 NSFC and 54 Science and Technology projects. People’s Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has achieved many honorary titles, like National Health System, Advanced Department in Constructing Industry Style, Demonstration Hospital Trusted by People, Municipal Civilized Department, etc.

In regard to hardware facilities, the hospital has been equipped with thousands of large medical equipment, such as Philips ingenia3.0T, GE Revolution CT, Philips Brilliance iCT, C model arm X-ray machine, excimer laser therapeutic apparatus and some other large medical equipment. Besides, the hospital has improved information and automate management. Electronic medical record and vertical centralized distribution modes can all be implemented smoothly. In order to provide regional health services, we have already established our private cloud platform to raise up the utilization rate of medical resources. A digital hospital and integral system has been initially built.

The hospital is a pilot hospital of establishing and improving the modern hospital management system, promoting comprehensive reform in the autonomous region and also forming DRGs (disease diagnosis related subgroup) medical insurance payment. Besides, we are currently trying to explore the reform of human resources system. Our hospital won various nationalwide honors,for instance, the “National Civilization Unit”, the “Advanced Group in Health Industry” and the “Patient-Trusted Model Hospital”.

The hospital maintains an extensive range of exchange programs and cooperations with other hospitals, such as Beijing Cancer Hospital, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Digestive Disease of Xijing Hospital, Hunan Provincial Hospital, Ophthalmic Hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the medical fields in Japan, the U.S., France, Arab countries, etc.
