Eye Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (also known as the Ophthalmology Research Institute of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences) founded in 1994, is affiliated with China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. It is one of the hospitals directly under the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a tertiary Grade A specialized TCM hospital that integrates medical treatment, scientific research and teaching. At present, the Hospital has 648 employees, including 11 entitled to the special government allowance from the State Council, 107 with senior professional titles, and 188 with master's degrees or above. It has many well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, such as National TCM Masters, National TCM Masters in the Capital , and Qihuang Scholars. Moreover, the Hospital is a master's and doctoral degree training institution for TCM and integrated medicine ophthalmology, as well as a postdoctoral mobile station. Currently it has 35 graduate supervisors. 

    The Hospital is a construction unit of the National TCM Elderly Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Center and the National TCM Children and Youth Myopia Prevention and Treatment Center. It is also a construction unit of the Central High-level TCM Hospital, the National clinical Research Base of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a cultivation unit of the National Inheritance and Innovation Center, a national regional medical center export hospital, a national drug clinical trial institution and a certifying unit of the TCM research ethics review system. It is the unit where the ophthalmology professional committees such as China Association of Chinese Medicine (CACM), World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), Beijing Association of Chinese Medicine, and Beijing Association of Integrating the Traditional and Western Medicine. It has successively won titles such as “National Civilized Unit” and “Capital Civilized Unit”.

    The Hospital currently has one national key clinical specialty, four national advantageous TCM specialties, four key specialties of Beijing Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, three key specialties of TCM during the 14th Five-Year Plan in Beijing, and four key specialties ofShijingshan District. It is a national regional (TCM ophthalmology) diagnosis and treatment center, the leading unit of CACM Ophthalmology Collaborative Innovation Community, the leading unit of the National TCM Ophthalmology Medical Association, the core unit of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei TCM Ophthalmology Medical Association, the National Health Commission “Health Express” National Cataract Training Base, the "Prevention and Treatment" Clinical Base of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Beijing Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Beijing TCM Ophthalmology Characteristic Diagnosis and Treatment Center. The Eye Function Laboratory of the Hospital is a Level 3 laboratory of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Hospital's comprehensive capabilities in medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, nursing, etc. are leading in TCM ophthalmology nationwide. 

    The expert team of the Hospital, led by the renowned ophthalmologist Professor Tang Youzhi, has provided eye disease treatment and health care for Chairman Mao Zedong, Prime Minister Kim II-sung, Penm Nouth, former Indonesian President Wahid, and others. The Hospital pioneered the unified diagnosis and treatment mode of local and systemic syndrome differentiation in ophthalmology, and carried out clinical research on dominant diseases such as retinal vein occlusion, retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, diabetes retinopathy, optic atrophy, glaucoma and pediatric eye diseases. 

    The Hospital has a total of 800 beds, among which 433 beds are open actually. It has 12 wards, 25 outpatient departments, 11 medical technology and auxiliary departments, as well as the International Ophthalmic Consultation Center and Jingxi Chinese Clinical and Medicine House. Equipped with various advanced professional instruments and equipment, the Hospital can meet the needs of disease diagnosis and treatment in addition to providing strong support for high-level scientific researches. There is a "China-Norway" TCM Ophthalmology Center. At present, the Hospital has developed into a tertiary Grade A TCM specialized hospital with distinctive characteristics, strong technical strength, advanced equipment, excellent service, and high reputation at home and abroad.
