Winemaking: Artisan and unfiltered Original peak period: 2017-2019 Serving temperature: 15-18 C ONE FAMILY, UNITED BY WINE Linaje Garsea is a Spanish family winery run by seven siblings. Our philosophy is based on respect for the land, artisan winemaking and the personal care of every vineyard. We tend the vines by hand throughout the year and follow their natural development. In October, the grapes for Private Collection 2009 were harvested entirely by hand and selected on the vine by members of our family. The bunches were transported in small 12 and 20 kg crates to preserve their condition until they reached the winery. ARTISAN WINEMAKING Private Collection 2009 is made from 20% Tinta del País from 41- and 53-year-old bush vines and 80% Tempranillo from 20- and 22-year-old trellised vines. The grapes come from the dry-farmed Pago Valdecobos vineyard, with clay-limestone soils. The 2009 Ribera del Duero vintage was rated Excellent. After six to seven days of pre-fermentation maceration, three daily pump-overs and traditional manual punch-downs extract colour and structure. Alcoholic fermentation lasts eight days at 27-30 C, with délestage removing up to 23% of the seeds. Only free-run juice is used. Natural malolactic fermentation, albumin clarification and winter settling are followed by 15 months in oak: 45% American, 45% French and 10% Hungarian and Spanish. The wine was bottled unfiltered in February 2011. TASTING AND FOOD PAIRING Deep, clean and bright picota cherry red, with violet tones at the rim and a glyceric texture. The nose is powerful, intense and fresh, led by blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry. Cinnamon, toffee, caramel and leather are joined by a balsamic, vanilla background. The palate opens dry yet richly fruity and powerful, with fresh fruit-driven tannins, seamless development and an exceptionally long finish. Ideal with roast suckling pig or lamb, red meats, Iberian cured meats, pâtés, fish stews and zarzuela-style seafood dishes. Serve at 15-18 C. The original tasting, dated 18 June 2012, indicated 2017-2019 as the wine's peak drinking period. As this is a historic vintage, its present condition will depend on provenance and storage. WINERY INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION - SELECTED VINTAGES Linaje Garsea Reserva 2011: Gold - San Francisco International Wine Competition 2016; Silver - Sommelier Wine Awards 2016; Gold - Sakura Awards Japan 2017.
