TASTING NOTES
A tribute to the great examples from the “Left’ Bank of Bordeaux” with a classical Australasian swing to it. A bright ruby red with a deep purplish hue signals intense aromas of ripe plums. The sumptuous palate is layered in a compote of brooding dark plums. Blackcurrant and juicy forest fruits. Maturation in French oak adds wonderful. Soft acid lifts, savoury fine tannins and a beguiling complexity and length.
VINTAGE & STYLE NOTES
This wine comes from a vineyard in the Willyabrup sub region of Margaret River. It is a warm site, that is rarely irrigated due to the mature 20 year old vines. Minimal intervention applies, and the resultant fruit is both flavoursome and structural at the same time. The grapes are hand picked in the early hours of the morning and processed by the winery immediately. Pre ferment cold soaking is encouraged to ensure fuller mid palate weight, darker intense colours and more efficient fermentation. The wine is kept on skins in the fermentation vessel for up to 15 days—this is vital to ensure tannins are fine and integrated at his early stage of production. Maturation occurs in contact with French and American oak—representing 20% new oak equivalent. We want the fruit to take centre stage and the oak to add structure, complexity and support. No fining or filtration is done at all—protecting the true character of the wine.
