The special committee of daily chemical consumer goods of the China International Import Expo Enterprise Alliance was established in Sept 2020 consisting of nearly 10 cosmetics giants. At the fifth CIIE in 2022, Japan's Shiseido became the committee's chair. Yu Lili, the head of corporate communications of Shiseido China, shared her views on how Shiseido plays a leading role in promoting the sustainable development of the industry.

Reporter: What specific work has the committee carried out since Shiseido became the committee's chair?

Yu: Shiseido China has participated in the CIIE for five consecutive years. As the chair of the committee, Shiseido has organized visits to companies and shared best practices with industry players on topics related to green innovation, which is in line with the trend of green consumption. The company has also organized a round table conference on high-quality development of cosmetics.

In August 2023, Shiseido organized a sustainable consumption symposium. Members of the committee visited the headquarters of Cainiao in Hangzhou to experience the new opportunities for sustainable supply chain in the cosmetics and daily chemical products industry, such as green transportation, green packaging and green parks.

Reporter: How does the committee play a guiding role for exhibitors?

Yu: The committee effectively brings together the strength of members to enhance its influence within the industry and attract more excellent companies, professional institutions, and industry experts to join the expo.

Reporter: In terms of improving professionalism and sustainable development capability, what specific role has the committee played?

Yu: The committee serves as a bridge for enterprises' communication and cooperation, and a platform for resource sharing in the industry. It provides suggestions for innovation and development based on the actual business and experience of enterprises, and contributes to the high-quality development of the industry.

Reporter: As the chair of the committee, what plans and intentions do you have for the following work of the committee?

Yu: The committee will continue to help build bridges for information exchanges between the government and business, improve the product, technology and service level of the daily chemical consumer goods industry, and promote the sustainable and healthy development of the industry.

Shiseido has already signed up to participate in the seventh CIIE and will continue to showcase cutting-edge technologies, new products and new brands on the open platform of the expo. Shiseido China, as the group’s second global headquarters, will also expand investment in China.
