Emergency drill staged ahead of CIIE Release date: 2019-09-18    Source:SHINE

An emergency rescue and medicare service drill was conducted in Shanghai on September 16 as part of the city's preparations for the upcoming China International Import Expo (CIIE).

A total of six government departments and units, 13 emergency vehicles, two helicopters and some 100 people participated in the drill to improve the city’s emergency preparedness.

The drill simulated a fire on a cruise ship on the Huangpu River. As part of the exercise, 50 "injured" people had to be rushed to Ruijin Hospital, including two transported by helicopter, while police officers, firefighters and rescuers were dispatched to extinguish the "fire" and offer timely treatment.

Medical staff at the Ruijin Hospital also took immediate action in line with protocol. Patients were triaged and sent to corresponding areas.

City officials said the air-land-sea drill has improved coordination among different government agencies and strengthened capability to handle emergency situations.
