What CIIE souvenirs to take home with from Shanghai? Release date: 2019-11-01    Source:Shine

Seven products have been chosen as souvenirs to represent Shanghai for people attending the upcoming China International Import Expo. 

They were declared winners based on a public vote and an appraisal by experts, the Shanghai Consumer Council announced on Wednesday.

The products are Kaikai silk scarves, Leiyunshang herbal essential oil combs, pankou (frog fasteners) bookmarks and magnolia pankou brooches of Longfeng, Hero-brand fountain pen gift boxes, Bee&Flower soaps, and Jiu He Tang sachets with Peking Opera mask patterns. 

They were chosen from the 50 winning entries in a competition organized by the council to find Shanghai's best specialty products for 2019. The event was in its second year and the results were announced last month. 

Also among the winning products are a glass plate and a bracelet from Shanghai Museum, White Rabbit creamy candies, Xing Hua Lou qingtuan (green glutinous rice balls) filled with salted egg yolk and dried meat floss, mung bean cake of Longhua Temple and Park Hotel snacks.

Meilin babaofan (steamed sweetened glutinous rice with eight different ingredients), Huili shoes (Warrior Shoes), Li Gao Lu beverages from the Shanghai Old-Town Temple Restaurant, Xuhang straw weaving bags and shoes, and Jinfeng yellow rice wine are also on the list. 

All 50 products will be displayed at the Shanghai exhibition area of the intangible cultural heritages and time-honored brands during the expo, the council said. 

They were selected from 200 products entered by 96 companies, including 79 from 41 time-honored Shanghai brands. 

Eighty-five entered the second round of screening after an initial round of assessment by experts based on quality, branding culture and regional features, and online voting by 4.8 million consumers both at home and abroad picked 50 of them.

"These products have a strong Shanghai flavor and feature new techniques innovated by time-honored brands," said Tao Ailian, secretary-general of the council.

They blend tradition with innovation, uniqueness with culture, and quality with fashion, Tao said.
