Ambassador: Peru looking forward to 4th CIIE Release date: 2021-02-04    Source:People's Daily, General Administration of Customs

Peruvian companies are looking forward to participating in the fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE), as the national level trade fair helps them gain access to the country's huge market, according to the Peruvian Ambassador to China Luis Quesada in a recent interview with People's Daily.

Quesada added that the CIIE sends a strong message to the world that China is playing an active role in promoting global trade, and this has gotten Peruvian enterprises excited about the resulting opportunities that will be created.

China has been Peru's largest trading partner and export market for many years. Data from China's General Administration of Customs shows that the foreign trade volume between the two countries in the first 11 months of last year totaled $20.7 billion, while China's imports from Peru reached $12.8 billion.

Peru has been expanding and diversifying its products that are exported to overseas markets. In addition to the conventional products such as copper, iron, and coffee, Peru has also been exporting foods such as squid, blueberries and avocados to China.

Such food and agricultural products were also exhibited at the third CIIE, which saw an active participation by Peruvian companies despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

China's steady economic recovery has injected strong vitality into Peru's exports and helped offset the negative impact that the pandemic has had on the latter's economy, said Alfredo Rolando, director of the China Peru Investment Development Association.

A report from the World Bank stated that Peru's GDP in 2020 is expected to grow by 7.6 percent, the most pronounced among countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region.
