The Mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng welcomed Luxembourg to participate in the sixth China International Import Expo and the 14th Lujiazui Forum 2023 during his meeting with Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg's minister of finance, on May 25.

Gong said that finance is the core of the modern economy and one of the most important functions of Shanghai. He also noted that Luxembourg has a developed financial industry that has been highly successful in its endeavors.

He hopes that the two sides will deepen exchanges and cooperation in the field of finance and promote open and cooperative financial markets.

Backes said that both Luxembourg and Shanghai are financial centers in the world.

She pointed out that Luxembourg is encouraging financial institutions to establish a presence in Shanghai and welcomes Chinese and Shanghai-based financial institutions to establish their European headquarters in Luxembourg and expand their reach in the European market.
