Report: 3rd CIIE captures the world's attention Release date: 2021-08-03    Source:China International Import Expo Bureau

The third China International Import Expo (CIIE) received "unprecedented" attention from global media, according to a new report released by the CIIE bureau.

The report stated that the third CIIE, which was held in November last year, gained two times as much media coverage as the first two editions, with more than 3.7 million pieces of information about the event published. Both domestic media, including People's Daily and Xinhua News Agency, and foreign mainstream media such as PR Newswire, the Associated Press, and Reuters reported on the expo.

Of all the foreign outlets, US media paid the highest attention to the third CIIE, with a total of 1,789 stories generated, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the total number of followers on the CIIE's official overseas social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube reached 994,000, up more than 40,000 compared to 2019. Statistics show that the posts published on these platforms received more than 48 million views while the videos received more than 8 million views.

During the third event, six countries - Russia, Italy, Portugal, Pakistan, Fiji, and Hungary - presented their local customs as well as development opportunities in a special section within the CIIE's official website. The total views of these pages reached 14,306, with the English version receiving more views than the Chinese version.

The report also pointed out that the "consumer goods" and "food and agricultural products" exhibition areas were the most popular last year. Many international brands such as L'Oreal, Amore Pacific, Siemens, and Qualcomm received much attention from media outlets too.

The four special zones which were set up at the third CIIE for the first time were also widely reported. The "Public Health and Epidemic Prevention" zone in particular received significant coverage. Multinational pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca received the most media coverage among the companies within this zone.

According to the report, nearly a hundred forums and meetings were held on the sidelines of the third CIIE. These events were also the center of attention in many media reports.
