More companies from Latin America are expected to participate in the fourth China International Import Expo this November, according to officials at a meeting held on Tuesday.

According to Liu Fuxue, deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau, around 600 enterprises from 20 countries in Latin America presented commodities including high-quality agricultural products, high-end textiles, high-tech products and modern services at the previous three editions of the expo.

There has been a rapid development in economic and trade cooperation between China and countries from Latin America in multiple industries because of economic globalization in recent years, and the CIIE has played a prominent role in helping Latin American companies explore the Chinese market, said Liu.

Ji Xiaofeng, the economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Chile, said she expects more high-quality products to be shown at the expo this year. According to Ji, China has been Chile's largest export destination for years.

Zhao Chunjiang, the economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Peru, said 2021 marks the bicentennial of the independence of Peru and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Zhao hopes that the CIIE will become a new milestone in the promotion of stronger bilateral economic ties.
