Attendees welcome chance to share expo highlights in 'My CIIE Story' Release date: 2022-07-01    Source:China International Import Expo Bureau

The "My CIIE Story" activity that was launched by the China International Import Expo Bureau and the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) on June 1 has been well received by exhibitors and purchasers over the last month.

Representatives from trade missions, government departments and volunteer service centers have praised the campaign for providing them with an opportunity to share their thoughts, memories and sense of fulfillment.

Wu Xingyue, a representative from the foreign trade department of the commerce bureau of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, shared her CIIE story as soon as she learned of the activity. She also encouraged her colleagues to participate and share more about Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

"This activity is a great platform for those who have been involved in the annual trade event to share their passion for being involved in the annual CIIE," said Wu.

Wu added the campaign is a reflection of the mission of the CIIE, which is "openness and collaboration, mutual benefit and win-win results".

"It also demonstrates China's determination to expand high-level opening-up and share development opportunities with the world," she said.

Zhang Yanping, a staff member from the Coordination Office of the China International Import Expo at the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, echoed Wu's sentiments.

Zhang, who has been involved in the CIIE since its inaugural edition in 2018, summarized the five-year experience as "a beautiful intersection of personal growth and national development".

In her view, the CIIE has provided a high-level platform for global enterprises to launch trade and economic cooperation with their Chinese counterparts while at the same time creating an international stage for the exchange of ideas and cultures.

Stories from participants, observers and media workers, said Zhang, will be "wonderful footnotes to express different visions of the CIIE".

Volunteers, who have been a major force in supporting the operation of the annual CIIE, have contributed their stories as well. Gong Ting, a staff member of Xujing Town Community Volunteer Service Center who has been responsible for volunteer training since 2014, said she has many fond memories of the training program.

According to Gong, the training is designed to cover courses such as sign language, psychology and foreign languages.

When asked about her thoughts of the annual expo, Gong said she is impressed at how public transportation facilities surrounding the expo venue have been enhanced and how the overhead lines above many roads were buried under the ground to spruce up the landscape.

Students from universities such as Shanghai International Studies University and Fudan University have also shown a strong interest in sharing their stories.

"The volunteer experience will give students the chance to learn about cutting-edge technologies, observe changes in the world and be the first to take initiatives," said Dong Shaolicheng, who is in charge of volunteer work at Shanghai International Studies University.

"Participating in the expo will also allow them to appreciate the changes and trends of industries, realize the similarities and differences between countries and regions through varied thinking and cultures, and build a bridge of mutual understanding and friendship with exhibitors."

Learning the perspectives of volunteers also encourages more young students to participate in the CIIE and contribute to the country's development, said Dong.

To date, the "My CIIE Story" activity has been viewed 67 million times across multiple platforms such as China Daily and The Paper, while the hashtag "My CIIE Story" on Weibo has accumulated nearly 1.8 million views. The hashtag has also become a trending topic on short video platform Douyin, on which it has been viewed 45,000 times.

Some of the best stories received will be published on news media and official platforms of the CIIE from July to October, with themes varying from month to month.

The theme of July is "big strategy". Stories of exhibitors, exhibitor organizers, members of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum and people from other sectors will be published to highlight how the CIIE is a critical national strategy, a major diplomatic event and a global public good.

The theme for August is "big market", and stories that show how the CIIE offers opportunities in the Chinese market to the world will be published.

Come September, stories that fit the theme "big platform", which involves new products, technologies and services displayed at the CIIE, will be showcased. Content about the country exhibition, cultural activities and supportive policies will also be published to show the CIIE is playing a bigger role in promoting international trade, investment, cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

In October, stories about "big opportunities" created by the expo will take center stage and highlight the positive impact the CIIE has had on the world and how it has helped build a community with a shared future for mankind over the last five years.
