The "European Union Companies in CIIE" round-table conference was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), the venue for the annual China International Import Expo, on Nov 9.

During the meeting, representatives from EU enterprises, including Societe Generale, Merck, Bayer, and BMW, shared their experiences of participating in the CIIE and exchanged ideas about foreign investment and digital exhibition.

The EU enterprises are important participants of the CIIE and many of them have been deeply involved in the Chinese market and expanded their businesses to a number of Chinese cities, said Liu Fuxue, deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau.

Bettina Schoen-Behanzin, vice-president of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC), said the CIIE demonstrates China's efforts to advance opening-up and economic globalization, which sends a positive signal to EU investors, especially those who want to enter the Chinese market.

Zhu Yi, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, said the EU has always been one of the largest trading partners of Shanghai. In light of this, the Shanghai government has been attaching great significance to EU companies in Shanghai and holds meetings every year to learn about their needs.
