The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, or UNICEF, signed a memorandum of understanding with the China International Import Expo Bureau on July 15, marking a new starting point for deepening their cooperation.

Before the signing ceremony, Sun Chenghai, deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau, had a meeting with Ted Chaiban, UNICEF deputy executive director for Humanitarian Action and Supply Operations, and Amakobe Sande, the UNICEF representative to China.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the cooperation among the CIIE, UNICEF and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, an important part of the expo, since the first CIIE in 2018. They agreed to further strengthen their partnership in CIIE's country exhibition, Hongqiao forum, and related events.

The CIIE and the Hongqiao forum have maintained a positive relationship with UNICEF. In 2018, UNICEF organized an event with the theme "Leading innovative collaborations to build the future of children everywhere" during the forum. Senior officials of UNICEF also participated in the Hongqiao forum's sub-sessions and delivered speeches at the events.

Moreover, UNICEF actively participated in a consultation meeting for this year's CIIE and Hongqiao forum, which took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York. UNICEF has also confirmed that it will participate in the country exhibition of the seventh CIIE, collaborate on and participate in relevant sub-sessions of the Hongqiao forum, and plans to host a side event.
