Foreign Minister of Papua New Guinea to lead delegation to take part in CIIE Release date:2018-05-30

A promotion conference for the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) was held recently at Port Moresby, capital of Papua New Guinea by the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’ Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Papua New Guinea and the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA), Papua New Guinea.

Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato of Papua New Guinea will lead a government and trade delegation to take part in the CIIE.

Liu Linlin, counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’ Office detailed the background, purpose, and preparatory work of the CIIE.

Papua New Guinea’s government considers the CIIE as of great importance to introduce Papua New Guinea to China and the world, as well as hopes to enhance economic and trade relations with China. Air Niugini is set to launch the Port Moresby-Shanghai direct route to further strengthen the connectivity between the two countries.

Liu noted that the two countries are highly complementary in terms of natural resources, economic development stages and industrial structure, and the potential for trade cooperation is enormous. The CIIE will crack the door open for Papua New Guinea enterprises to expand the Chinese market.

The attendees reacted enthusiastically. Several companies expressed their strong interest in the CIIE.
