Hello, I am Michael Levitt. In 2013, I was honored to receive the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing multiscale models to study complex chemical systems. I’m delighted to join the session on Drug Safety Governance and Chinese Drug Regulation Innovation at the 8th Hongqiao International Economic Forum.

This past year has been extraordinary. Artificial Intelligence—especially with DeepSeek now in the hands of so many—has accelerated the pace of discovery. At the same time, China’s biotechnology sector has leapt forward, making headlines worldwide for its speed, scale, and ambition. Together, these advances are reshaping how medicines are created, tested, and brought to patients.

As a scientist, I’m excited to share my perspective on these breakthroughs, and I look forward to engaging with policymakers and industry leaders as we imagine the future of pharmaceuticals. My thanks to the National Medical Products Administration of China and the HQF Secretariat for the invitation.
