Hello, I’m Joseph Stiglitz. University Professor of Economics at Columbia University in the city of New York. I would like to thank the Ministry of Commerce of China, the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Bank of China for inviting me to attend the 8th Hongqiao International Economic Forum. Specifically for the session on propelling global economic and trade development through finance. It’s a pleasure to be part of the event.

In my talk I’m going to explore the impact of finance on international trade and global economic development in a world in which trade relations and global financial markets are highly turbulent. What might happen? How might the new global situation affect workers, international relations and the world’s economy. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you.
