A promotional event for the seventh China International Import Expo was held in the capital of Peru, Lima, on May 29, attracting nearly 150 representatives from local government departments, business associations, enterprises, and media outlets.
Addressing the attendees, Song Yang, the Chinese ambassador to Peru, welcomed various institutions and businesses from Peru to participate in the seventh CIIE. He said that the Chinese government has invited Peru to participate in the country exhibition at this year's expo.
"Peru has been a regular participant of the CIIE, with the Peruvian government participating in the expo's country exhibition multiple times and once serving as a guest of honor," said Ge Hong, chief financial officer of the CIIE Bureau.
He added that products such as alpaca wool goods, blueberries, and quinoa showcased by Peruvian exhibitors have become popular among Chinese consumers.
During the event, Ysabel Zea, co-founder of Warmpaca, shared her experiences and insights from participating in the expo. She recalled that the company's booth was small during their first time participating, but now Warmpaca collaborates with over 1,000 families producing handmade alpaca wool goods and has created numerous job opportunities and conducted operations in Shanghai and Xiamen.
Julio Perez Alvan, president of the Peruvian Association of Exporters (ADEX), emphasized the CIIE as a crucial platform for strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Peru and China, as well as providing better development opportunities for Peruvian small and medium-sized enterprises.
"We will bring more Peruvian exporters and high-quality products to China, resulting in mutual benefits for entrepreneurs from both Peru and China and creating more jobs in Peru," he stated.
During its stay in Uruguay and Peru, the CIIE working team engaged in in-depth discussions with entities such as investment, export and country brand promotion agency Uruguay XXI, the Uruguayan National Meat Institute (INAC), and ADEX, and established cooperation with organizations including the Uruguay-China Chamber of Commerce (CCUCH) and the Chinese Peruvian Chamber of Commerce (INICIO).
