The High-Quality Development Driven by Enterprises’ ESG (environmental, social, and governance) Practice – Thematic Event of Hongqiao International Economic Forum was held in Shanghai on Dec 16. 

Ma Fengmin, financial director of the China International Import Expo Bureau and deputy secretary general of the Hongqiao forum, said at the event that enterprises' ESG practices play an important role in implementing China's Global Development Initiative. 

The Hongqiao International Economic Forum has held many forums and activities themed on climate change, green development, and green economy in recent years to build a platform for cooperation and exchanges among governments, enterprises, and research institutions, Ma added.

Xu Xiang, executive vice-president of The Paper, said the event, which provides an opportunity for governments, enterprises and other market players to discuss ESG theories and experiences, will help build an ESG system and high-quality economic and social development.

At the event, experts from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and other think tanks and institutes delivered keynote speeches on issues regarding the capital market and sustainable investment, and green development. 

Representatives from enterprises, media outlets and research institutes also shared their views of ESG practices during a roundtable discussion. 

The event was the first thematic activity to be held after the fifth Hongqiao International Economic Forum.
