The Parallel Session on Advancing Supply Chain Sustainability through Cooperation on Corporate Social Responsibility Was Successfully Held 发布日期: 2023年03月13日

On November 5, 2022, the Parallel Session on Advancing Supply Chain Sustainability through Cooperation on Corporate Social Responsibility of the 5th Hongqiao International Economic Forum (Hongqiao Forum), co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, was successfully held at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center. In the parallel session, government officials, representatives from international organizations, corporate executives, experts, and scholars exchanged views on how all parties concerned can practice corporate social responsibility, cooperate to promote the sustainable development of the industrial chain and maintain the security and stability of the global supply chain under the new situation through the online participation and virtual meeting via video links.

Zhang Yunming, member of the CPC Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Zhang Wei, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Shanghai, attended the parallel session and delivered speeches. Vice Minister Zhang Yunming pointed out that the supply chain based on the international division of labor is an important global public good and a vital link to connect countries around the world and promote the growth of the world economy. It is hoped that all sectors will make full use of this platform to strengthen communication, reach more consensus and actively fulfill their social responsibilities, so as to jointly build a stable, safe, and smooth global industrial chain and supply chain and create a bright future for the world economy.

Vice Mayor Zhang Wei said that a smooth and stable supply chain is an essential guarantee for the healthy operation of the economy and the well-being of the public. In the future, Shanghai will adhere to the theme of high-quality development and strive to promote the sustainable development of the industrial chain supply chain from three aspects: serving national strategies, highlighting the leading role of innovation, and promoting openness and cooperation.

In the keynote presentation, Li Yizhong, President of the China Federation of Industrial Economics, focused on the topic of “Enhancing the Resilience and Security of the Industrial Chain and Supply Chain”, proposing to deepen the understanding of the industrial chain supply chain, grasp the new challenges and tasks of the industrial chain and supply chain in the context of the major international changes and the new domestic stage, and enhance the resilience and security of the industrial chain and supply chain. In his speech, President Li Yizhong released the Report on Sustainable Development of China Industry and Information Technology (2022), and the Report on Green and Low-Carbon Development of China Industry and Information Technology (2022).

Huang Qunhui, Director of the Institute of Economic Research, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech on “Practicing the New Development Concept and the Global Development Initiative through ESG Investment”, in which he elaborated on the meaning of the New Development Concept and Global Development Initiatives, proposed four key directions for investment in the ESG sector, and stressed the importance of ESG work in promoting high-quality corporate development.

In the corporate presentation session, Lei Ping, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of FAW Group, outlined the goal and blueprint of working together with partners from different countries to build a sustainable industrial chain and strive to open up a new pattern of transformation and development of China’s auto industry in the new era from the analysis of three aspects: the big changes facing the auto industry, the achievements of FAW Group’s transformation and development, and the creation of a sustainable industrial chain.

Mike Henry, BHP’s Chief Executive Officer, said that China has achieved impressive economic development in recent decades and has demonstrated significant influence in the global economy. BHP is working with a number of Chinese partners in the industry to drive the overall process of steel production toward decarbonization. He said that “The world needs China to play an important leadership role in creating and sustaining the momentum for green and sustainable development.”

Mark Tucker, Chairman of HSBC Holdings, said that supporting the transition to a net zero economy has always been HSBC’s long-term goal. With more and more enterprises hoping to be assisted and build a more sustainable supply chain, HSBC will actively help customers better meet challenges and enhance the supply chain’s flexibility and sustainable development ability.

Zheng Yang, Chairman of Pudong Development Bank, pointed out that the sustainable development of industrial chains requires the joint efforts of all parties to better promote the integration, smoothness, stability, and solidity of the industrial chain, help the world economy return to normal development track, and accelerate the confidence and momentum of global solidarity and development. He also put forward thinking in three aspects as to how the financial industry can help with the sustainable development of industrial chains and gave an outlook on how Pudong Development Bank can contribute to the development of industrial chains in the future.

David Ji, Global Vice President of AMD and Chairman-in-Office of the China R&D Center, presented AMD’s actions and positive results in driving sustainable development, explaining how environmental initiatives are incorporated in operations, supply chains, and products. He said that AMD aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by at least 50% by 2030.

Besides, the forum also released professional reports such as Report on the Practice of Social Responsibility in China’s Textile and Apparel Industry and Cooperation to Promote the Sustainable Development of the Industry Chain and Report on the Development of Social Responsibility Construction in the Electronic Information Industry. More than 200 representatives from associations and research institutions such as the China Federation of Industrial Economics, China National Textile and Apparel Council, China Electronics Standardization Institute, industrial and information technology enterprises, and media reporters attended the parallel session, which was reported in real time by Xinhua News Agency, China Central Television, China National Radio, Guangming Daily, Workers’ Daily, China Youth Daily, and China Industry News.
