On November 5, 2022, the Ministry of Commerce, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the Office of the National Leading Group on Fight against IPR Infringement and Counterfeitingwill host the ParallelSession“International Cooperation on Intellectual Property Protection and Campaign against Infringement and Counterfeits”under the “Opening-up: Governance Mechanisms”section of the 5th Hongqiao International Economic Forum (hereinafter referred to asthe Hongqiao Forum) at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). The parallel sessionaims to build a global exchange platform for protecting intellectual property rights and combating infringement and counterfeiting and provide advice and suggestions for global governancein this regard.

Innovation is the prime driver of development, and protectingintellectual property rights requires global governance and concerted promotion. At present, againstdrastic changes and a pandemic unseen in a century, the world economic recovery is facing serious challengeswithmoreurgentdemandsfor innovation in economic development.And the role of intellectual property rights has become increasingly prominent. The parallel session focuseson international and domestic concernsby bringing togetherChinese and foreign gueststo exchangeand share their experience and practices in protecting intellectual property rights and combating infringement and counterfeiting, so as to gather consensus and cohesion, thus further enhancingglobal awareness of intellectual property protection and collaborative governance on combating infringement and counterfeiting.

Sharing achievements. Members of the Office of the National Leading Group on Fight against IPR Infringement and Counterfeiting(China’s national administrative law enforcement and criminal justice departments, etc.), international organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization, intellectual property officials from foreign embassies (missions) in China, renowned experts and scholars, and representatives of famous enterprises at home and abroad will be invited. They will share their experiences, practices and insights on protecting intellectual property rights and combating infringement and counterfeiting, so as to contribute the “Chinese solutions”for combating infringement and counterfeiting and send the “Hongqiao voice”for protecting intellectual property rights.

Building consensus.The parallel session will include keynote speeches, panel presentations, industry exchanges and outcome documentsrelease, etc.It willserve as a platform to deeply analyze the new situation and challenges facing the fight against infringement and counterfeiting, explore feasible ways to strengthen IPR protection, stimulate the potential and vitality of cooperation, gather the wisdom and strength of all parties, and promote global governance of infringement and counterfeiting.

Promoting joint governance.Combating infringement and counterfeiting and protecting intellectual property rights is a systematic project. Taking the parallel session as a platform and an opportunity, we will further strengthen communication and collaboration among all parties, bring into play the enthusiasm of industry associations and enterprises, promote comprehensive governance in combating infringement and counterfeiting, continuously improve the effectiveness of our work and governance level, and contribute to the development of the global intellectual property cause.
