The high level Forum on RCEP and Higher-level Opening-Up was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) on the morning of November 5. Hu Chunhua, Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the Forum and delivered a speech.

Chen Jining, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, was also present at the Forum.

Hu Chunhua pointed out that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has clearly defined the general policies and strategic plans for the development of the Party and the national cause in the new era and new journey, stressing that China sticks to the basic state policy of opening up, firmly pursues an open strategy of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and adheres to the correct direction of economic globalization. We will continue to provide new opportunities for the world with China’s new development and drive the building of an open world economy to better benefit people from all countries, in accordance with the deployment of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

Hu Chunhua said that since the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) came into force, the Chinese government has taken a series of pragmatic initiatives to fully deliver its market opening commitments and fuffill its obligations under the agreement, promoting the continued release of policy dividends from the Free Trade Area (FTA). China is willing to work with member countries to further enhance RCEP construction, continuously deepen cooperation in regional industrial and supply chains, actively align with high-standard economic and trade rules, strengthen regional connectivity and promote common development and prosperity for all countries in the region.

Hu Chunhua stressed that China firmly supports the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core, remains committed to expanding its global network of high-standard FTAs. China is actively pushing forward the accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), is fully engaged in negotiations to join the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement (DEPA), and is negotiating and signing FTAs with more trading partners. China’s continued high-level opening up will certainly create a broader space for deepening trade and investment cooperation.
