A promotional event for the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Feb 24, drawing around 200 representatives from Malaysian enterprises and organizations.
Addressing the event, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing highlighted that in 2024, bilateral trade between China and Malaysia reached a historic high, with China continuing to be Malaysia's largest trading partner for the 16th consecutive year. He encouraged Malaysian businesses to participate in the CIIE and bring more high-quality Malaysian products to the Chinese market.

Wu Zhengping, deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau, said that preparations for the 8th CIIE are progressing smoothly, with over 220,000 square meters of exhibition space already reserved.
Wu noted that Malaysia has taken part in the expo's Country Exhibition four times and served as the guest country of honor twice, while over 370 Malaysian companies have showcased their products at the expo. He reaffirmed the bureau's commitment to enhancing collaboration with Malaysian institutions to help more local businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, participate in the CIIE and access China's vast market.
According to Wu, the 8th CIIE will continue to follow an inclusive approach, showcasing more products from developing countries and offering free exhibition spaces for the least developed countries. The exhibition space will remain expansive, with topics evolving to reflect cutting-edge industry trends. This year's expo will also facilitate business-to-business interactions, industry exchanges, and commercial negotiations, helping match supply with demand and boosting trade transactions.
Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, chief executive officer of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), praised the CIIE, saying it is not just an exhibition but an excellent channel for Malaysian businesses to enter the Chinese market and connect with more buyers and suppliers. He revealed that MATRADE is planning to mobilize over 200 Malaysian companies to participate in the 8th CIIE.
During the event, MATRADE signed a memorandum of cooperation with the CIIE Bureau. Additionally, the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, the Malaysia Promas International Business Society, and Muhua SDN BHD signed contracts to exhibit at the 8th CIIE.
While in Malaysia, Wu also held talks with Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, chairman of MATRADE, to discuss strengthening long-term cooperation and getting more Malaysian businesses to participate in the CIIE.
