The inaugural edition of the China International Import Expo, which was held in November 2018 in Shanghai, attracted worldwide attention. The first CIIE photo contest comprised two categories – one for domestic photographers with the theme of "new era" and the other for overseas participants with the theme of "shared future".

There were three prizes for the two categories and an additional category of photos of the CIIE venue. Fifty pictures stood out from about 5,000 submissions at last.
