Fiji will fully participate in CIIE, minister says Release date: 2018-07-18
The first China International Import Expo (CIIE) will be held in Shanghai in November. Faiyaz Koya, Fijian Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism stated in an interview that Fiji will seize this important opportunity for the development of China-Fiji trade and participate in the CIIE at multiple levels and in all aspects.
Fiji hopes to have a high-level exchange with its trading partners to identify and eliminate trade barriers, as well as to explore ways to enhance international trade, said Faiyaz, adding that they will promote Fiji as a desirable tourism and investment destination, and show the world the unique Fijian culture and heritage.
Many Fijian business entities have registered to participate in the expo, said Faiyaz, noting that Fiji possesses a pure and clean natural environment, and Fijian natural cosmetics, beer and frozen seafood will be on display at the CIIE.
“We hope that these Fijian Made products could take this opportunity to expand their access in the Chinese market”, he added.
Faiyaz pointed out that China is one of Fiji's largest trading partners. The total volume of imports and exports between China and Fiji has increased from 370 million Fijian dollars in 2011 to 880 million Fijian dollars (USD417 million) in 2017, an increase of about 138%.
Fiji would like to export more to China through the CIIE, and further strengthen the business connections between the two countries.
At present, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Fiji, the Consulate General of Fiji in Shanghai, the Trade Commission in Shanghai and the Fijian Embassy in China are working together on preparing for the CIIE.
