Global Celebrities Give CIIE the Thumbs-up series

Interviewee: Juan Varilias Velásquez, President of Association of Exporters (ADEX), Peru

Velásquez fully affirmed the positive effects of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) on the economic development and exports of Peru, noting that the expo is an excellent initiative by President Xi Jinping and signifies China's interest in learning more about the world's products.

He believes that this is an important event for Peru in particular, because it offers a grand opportunity for the country to display its high-quality products especially in agriculture and fisheries. CIIE will greatly help the Chinese importers know about the nutritious food from Peru, he said.

ADEX, Promperú (Peru’s commission for exports and tourism) and Mincetur (the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru) will selected the most attractive Peruvian products for the world and particularly for the consumers in China, Velásquez stated, adding that they will bring the best products to the expo.

Velásquez noted that Peru attaches much importance to technological development and has been acquiring international technology to produce its food. And Asian technology finds wide use in Peru’s food sector like packaging and classification. 

“Peru is coming not only to exhibit, but also to buy at the import expo as we know that today’s China boasts high-quality technology”, he said.
