A business roundtable for the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) was held in Stockholm, Sweden, on March 20, during which representatives from over 10 Swedish companies and business associations discussed opportunities in the Chinese market.
Kang Wen, commercial counselor at the Chinese embassy in Sweden, said that the number of Swedish exhibitors at the 7th CIIE in 2024 has reached a record high, demonstrating growing confidence in China's economic prospects and market potential.
Kang also noted that Business Sweden, a not-for-profit consultancy that helps Swedish companies expandly globally, began mobilizing Swedish exhibitors to participate in the expo last year. As 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Sweden, Kang expressed hope that Business Sweden would encourage more Swedish companies to participate in the CIIE and seize new business opportunities in China's vast market.
Ning Feng, president of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), emphasized that China, with a population of 1.4 billion and over 400 million middle-income consumers, offers immense potential for imported goods. He also noted that leading Swedish companies such as Volvo, Elekta, IKEA, and Hexagon have participated in previous expos, reflecting the CIIE's strong appeal. This year, he hopes to see more Swedish businesses engaged in green energy, artificial intelligence, and life sciences explore the Chinese market and seek new partnerships.
Elisabet Söderström, secretary general of the Sweden-China Trade Council, highlighted the long-standing trade relationship between the two countries. She stressed that the CIIE serves as an excellent platform for both Swedish businesses already operating in China and those looking to enter the market. The council will continue to support its member companies in joining the event, she added.
During their visit to Sweden, the CIIE working team met with local firms such as Sumborg Invest and Chematur Engineering, while also visiting companies like IKEA, Alfa Laval, and FJM. Discussions focused on leveraging local business associations to encourage more Swedish small and medium-sized enterprises as well as industrial supply chain businesses to participate in the CIIE.
