Multinational firm execs laud Xi's keynote remarks at 4th CIIE Release date: 2021-11-05    Source:chinadaily.com.cn

Steven Lien, President of Honeywell China and Aerospace Asia Pacific

In his speech, President Xi Jinping emphasized openness and cooperation, and showed the world that China is willing to further share development opportunities and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, which is very encouraging. As a new international public platform for open cooperation and mutually beneficial development, the CIIE demonstrates the sincerity of China to continue sharing development opportunities with the world and its commitment to greater openness. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of China's accession to the WTO and it is a milestone in China's opening-up. The success of the fourth CIIE will be another strong evidence of China's opening-up commitment.

Over the past three years, Honeywell has made the China debut of a wide range of technologies and solutions, strengthening our cooperation with Chinese partners. This year, we look forward to continuing to seize the CIIE opportunities, and work side by side with Chinese customers to create a greener and low-carbon industrial eco-system. Against the backdrop of China's further opening its market, Honeywell will continue with its China strategies of "East for East" and "East to Rest". While riding on business opportunities arising from China's "dual carbon" goals, we will strive to contribute to China's sustainable development.

Pius S. Hornstein, Country Lead of Sanofi Greater China

President Xi Jinping's keynote speech underlines the importance of openness and cooperation. Through these pillars of support, we can promote the global economy's recovery and share prosperity, enabling countries to respond to global issues more positively such as pandemics, climate change and energy issues. The CIIE provides a unique platform and valuable opportunity to promote global economic cooperation and greatly boosts the confidence of Chinese and foreign investors.

In the context of the pandemic, the digital economy has become a new focal point and major driving force for economic recovery. Sanofi has been spearheading collaboration with leading digital companies and startups and is committed to working with partners to drive the healthcare industry's digital transformation and open a new era of healthcare. We hope to continue exploring new digital healthcare innovations in the future and provide Chinese patients with high-quality digital solutions to support the Healthy China 2030 initiative.

Sanofi continues to accelerate its introduction of innovative products and vaccines, benefiting from the expanding CIIE spillover effect. From 2020 to 2025, Sanofi is expected to bring more than 25 innovative medicines and vaccines to China. Meanwhile, we will continue to deepen our investments in China, seize development opportunities in key economic areas, and expand the scale of our R&D and manufacturing to bring innovative and high-quality products to Chinese people.

Chunyuan Gu, Chairman of ABB China

President Xi's keynote speech delivered at the opening ceremony of the fourth China International Import Expo is very inspiring. It once again conveyed China's determination to promote high-level opening-up, to share market opportunities and contribute to an open world economy, which further strengthened our confidence in expanding our strategic footprint in China with a focus on the areas of digitalization, industrial Internet, artificial intelligence and sustainable development.

China is ABB's second-largest market worldwide. From the opening of ABB Xiamen Hub to the establishment of the ABB Open Innovation Center, and from the acquisition of Chargedot to the construction of our new robotics Factory of the Future which will open next year - ABB has been and will remain committed to "In China, for China and the World" and be the partner of choice for sustainable development.

This is also why we have actively participated in the CIIE for four consecutive years since the first session. ABB considers CIIE an important platform to share our latest leading digital and smart technologies that help energize the transformation of industry and work together with our customers and partners for high-quality development and a more sustainable future.

Leon Wang, Executive Vice President of AstraZeneca

President Xi Jinping's speech at the opening ceremony showed China's determination to further open up to the outside world with high-quality development, as well as its sincere wish to share market opportunities, economic and trade benefits to promote coordinated development of the world. We are deeply encouraged by his remarks.

China is actively building a "dual-circulation" development pattern. While strengthening the internal driving force of economic growth, China is positioned to further open to the outside world, carrying out more and more measures to bridge markets at home and abroad, so as to provide more impetus for world economic recovery. This has also provided unprecedented opportunities for foreign enterprises to seek development in China.

As a multinational company deeply rooted in China, AstraZeneca will continue to play our role as a bridge, not only to bring good products and technologies into China, but also to bring Chinese innovative products and solutions to the world. AstraZeneca takes this as a responsibility. We are not an onlooker, but a participant and a promoter.

Bogdan Burchila, President of Lesaffre China

President Xi's speech was impressive. This year marks 20 years since China joined the WTO. Over the past 20 years, China has taken strong actions to continuously promote and support the opening of world trade. Even when affected by the epidemic, China has fulfilled its commitments to the international import expo.

As a foreign-funded enterprise, Lesaffre is very pleased to respond to the call of President Xi Jinping and firmly support China's further reform and opening-up and bring its own contribution to green and sustainable development in China and in the world.

Samantha Zhu, chair of Accenture (Greater) China

Chinese industries and enterprises are deepening transformation towards low-carbon, high-quality growth as China orchestrates new development. In his opening speech at the CIIE, President Xi Jinping pointed out China will actively lead the discussions in fields like digital economy and low-carbon. We believe enterprises must firmly accelerate digital transformation alongside sustainability efforts to stay competitive and viable, and to empower China economy's high-quality growth.

At the beginning of China's 14th Five-Year Plan period, we are delighted to participate in the CIIE for the second time. China is a key strategic market for Accenture. China has been constantly embracing opening-up at a higher level and improving the business environment. Amid the profound and prolonged impacts of change and disruption, Accenture, together with Chinese companies, will continue to deploy the innovative digital capabilities, deep cross-industry expertise and broad ecosystem partnership to deliver on the promise of technology and human ingenuity and pursue development in more sustainable ways.

Christine Zhou, senior vice president of Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals Co Ltd and president of Novo Nordisk China

This is my fourth time at the Hongqiao International Economic Forum.

President Xi Jinping's opening speech for the CIIE emphasized openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, which is very impressive.

We are very pleased to see China's determination to share the market opportunities and the steps to promote opening-up and optimize the business environment, which reinforces our confidence in the Chinese market.

Novo Nordisk will continue to take root in China and increase investment to serve Chinese and global patients.

Dan Brindle, President of Novartis Group (China)

President Xi's speech again demonstrates China's firm determination to continue its opening-up journey. China has been carrying out higher-level opening-up with the pursuit of "win-win" collaboration, which is set to bring new vigor to the global economy. I believe China will be even more open, the business environment will be even better and opportunities will be even bigger for companies like Novartis.

Greg Holman, president of Stryker China

President Xi Jinping emphasized at the opening ceremony of the CIIE, "Despite profound changes and a severe pandemic, China's determination of expanding high-level opening-up, sharing development opportunities with the world and making economic globalization more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial for all will not change." I deeply agree with this. Despite the challenges of the epidemic, China still demonstrates its determination to expand high-level opening-up to the world while ensuring people can live in safety. Participating in CIIE for the first time, Stryker looks forward to embracing the Chinese opportunity and will introduce more global advanced products into the Chinese market.

Stryker has driven to make healthcare better and refresh patients' lives from the very beginning via advanced technology. Since our entry into China in 1985, we commit to the strategy of "in China, for China" and strive for introducing advanced medical technology to benefit more Chinese patients and help improve lives. Today, China plays an increasingly important role in Stryker's business and our devotion into China has also increased. We will keep supporting CIIE, continue to increase our investment in China and bring innovative products to Chinese market.

Felix Gutsche, Global Senior Vice President of Boehringer Ingelheim, China President & CEO

I am impressed by the determination President Xi demonstrated in his opening speech to "unswervingly open up to a higher level". In recent years, China has made remarkable progress in accelerating the approval of new drugs, continuously improving the business environment and trade facilitation measures. As an international company, we benefit from and believe in open borders, open trade and a level playing field.

The CIIE has become a window to showcase China's opening-up, and the spillover effect is significant. We participate in the CIIE for the third consecutive year and our innovative exhibits have turned into commercial products in an accelerated way. With the spillover effect, Boehringer Ingelheim has also evolved into an investor on top of an exhibitor.

At this year's CIIE, we will stage the global and Asia debuts of multiple innovative products and services. We will also announce an investment plan in the field of stroke rehabilitation in western China. This project is a strategic partnership we've clinched via the CIIE platform.

The China market is one of Boehringer Ingelheim's key growth engines. The successful CIIE and the strategic positioning on reform and opening-up at a higher level have further strengthened our confidence in increasing investment in the China market.

George Ye, Vice President and General Manager of Edwards Greater China

President Xi Jinping's important speech at the opening ceremony of the 4th CIIE underlined China should seize the momentum of economic globalization, support countries in opening-up wider and help usher in a better future for mankind. The speech strengthened Edward's confidence in further development in China in the future.

In the speech, President Xi emphasized China has been giving foreign investment greater market access and a continuously improving business environment. China is one of Edwards' important strategic markets. As the global leader in medical innovations for structural heart disease, as well as critical care and surgical monitoring, Edwards will seize the new development opportunities brought by the expansion of opening-up to bring in more innovative products and cutting-edge technologies to benefit more Chinese patients.

In the future, Edwards will continue to respond to China's call for the development of scientific and technological innovation, and benefit Chinese patients with more, better, and higher-quality innovative products and treatment plans, to help "Healthy China 2030".

Sandy Hao, Managing Director of SGS China

This year is the fourth year for SGS to participate in the expo, and we are inspired by President Xi Jinping's speech on China's commitment to be resolute in expanding high-level opening up, sharing development opportunities with the world and making economic globalization more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial for all.

As a global service provider of testing, inspection and certification, SGS has entered the China market for 30 years and helped numerous Chinese companies align with international standards, and also foreign companies to meet Chinese domestic market entry standards.

We think CIIE is not only a stage for us to release the most cutting-edge technologies and services, but also a window to understand the dynamics of the cutting-edge market. For example, in recent years, we have successively invested in a GMP life science laboratory, 5G testing laboratory, semiconductor ultra-trace analysis laboratory and other testing capabilities, which are new capacities in line with the national development strategy and market demand.

This year, SGS will bring green, innovative and high-quality low-carbon sustainable service solutions to the CIIE. We look forward to making more new friends here.

Fujiwara Kentaro, Shiseido China CEO

In President Xi's opening speech, he said China will remain resolute in expanding high-level opening-up, sharing development opportunities with the world and making economic globalization more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial for all. Under the 14th Five-Year Plan, China is reshaping its economy, offering international businesses a more comprehensive, more convenient, and higher quality trade environment. As China strives to achieve "common prosperity," this will also stimulate the consumer market, creating enormous opportunities for all those involved.

As a global beauty company with 40 years in China, we continue to see a bright future for the beauty industry. Through our two-pronged innovation strategy, we will continue to double down on local R&D while bringing the best of our global innovations to the market to maximize these exciting growth opportunities.

While we endeavor to make the most of China's opening-up policies, we will also continue to deliver high-quality growth that boosts China's dual-circulation economy and supports Shanghai in becoming a global center for consumer goods.

Shirley Xue, Managing Director of North East Asia, Beiersdorf AG

The words of President Xi Jinping in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 4th CIIE impressed me deeply. At the critical moment of human history, we're very excited to see China is putting together this event while ensuring safety amid the pandemic. This indicates that China wants to open up and share opportunities with the world as always. By doing so, China has also demonstrated its determination to drive sustainable development in the world as well as its obligation as the world's second-largest economy.

Today, China is driving high-level economic and social development with a new "dual circulation" model. As a leading global skincare group with a history of almost 140 years, Beiersdorf will embrace China's new strategy and its decision to further open up and strengthen cooperation. Taking advantage of the CIIE, we'll introduce more new brands, new products and new technologies to China, bring our cutting-edge skincare technologies and services to Chinese consumers with our company purpose called "Care Beyond Skin", and at the same time promote digital transformation and development. Moreover, against the background of "Green Low-carbon", we'll also announce our sustainability plan at the expo. We want to work with our consumers to contribute to social and environmental sustainability and undertake responsibilities far beyond those for a skincare company.
