Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng welcomed Standard Chartered, a UK-based multinational banking group, to showcase more of its products and services at the China International Import Expo during his meeting with Jose Vinals, chairman of the group, on July 10.

Gong said he hopes the group will contribute to Shanghai's efforts in becoming an international financial center by enhancing its presence in the city and providing better services that facilitate the transformation and upgrading of local industries.

He added that Shanghai remains committed to building a first-class business environment and will continue to offer comprehensive services to all kinds of enterprises.

Vinals said that China has become the largest recipient of investments from Standard Chartered, and that the group will continue to increase its investments in the Chinese market.

The group will also leverage its strengths to help Shanghai become an offshore RMB hub, promote the city’s green finance development and real economy, as well as assist local enterprises in expanding overseas, he added.

Standard Chartered has a strong presence in Shanghai and China. Its branch in Shanghai is the group's China headquarters.
