Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng welcomed the US-based firm Invista, one of the world's largest fiber and polymer companies, to participate in the sixth China International Import Expo during his meeting with Francis Murphy, president and chief executive officer of Invista, on July 25.
Gong said that Shanghai is currently focusing on the development of the real economy and is striving to build a high-end manufacturing growth center as well as a globally renowned manufacturing base.
Gong added that he is looking forward to Invista strengthening its presence in Shanghai and introducing more advanced manufacturing projects to the city to propel the high-quality development of the high-end chemical industry.
Murphy said that Invista has made a series of significant investments in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park and is delighted to bring the most advanced technologies to China.
He added that by collaborating with local partners, the company will not only enhance the production of important chemical products in Shanghai but also help in controlling greenhouse gas emissions.
Invista has already invested over 12 billion yuan ($1.67 billion) in Shanghai and established production bases and a research and development center for the Asia-Pacific region in the city.
