How Can "Global Economic Rebalancing" Move from Concept to Action?
The foundations of the global economic recovery remain fragile: divergent growth is compounding trade tensions, while trade fragmentation and industrial rivalry are clearly on the rise. As "rebalancing" evolves from a concept into an urgent real-world agenda, the parallel session "Global Economic Rebalancing: Smooth Trade, Industrial Collaboration and Inclusive Development" will be held from 15:00 to 17:00 on November 5 in Conference Room C002 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). The event takes place during the 9th HongQiao International Economic Forum (November 5–6). It is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the International Trade Centre (ITC), co-hosted by Renmin University of China, and organized by Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China (RDCY) and School of Global Leadership, Renmin University of China (SGL).
Distinguished guests from international organizations, academia and multinational corporations will attend and deliver keynote speeches, including Mondher Mimouni, Director of Market Development Division of International Trade Centre (ITC); Jeffrey Sachs, Professor at Columbia University and former senior adviser to the United Nations; Iskra Reic, Executive Vice President, International, AstraZeneca; and Hanneke Faber, Chief Executive Officer, Logitech. Drawing on the perspectives of the multilateral trading system, global governance and industrial practice, they will explore how to keep trade flowing freely and industries working in synergy amid global economic rebalancing.
Wang Wen, Dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies and Dean of School of Global Leadership at Renmin University of China, will release the report Towards 2050: A Symbiotic Pathway to Global Economic Rebalancing through Unimpeded Trade, a joint initiative on trade-driven global economic rebalancing towards 2050.
John Ross, former Director of Economic and Business Policy for the Mayor of London, Winner of the 2024 Chinese Government Friendship Award; Martin Jacques, former Senior Fellow at the Department of Politics and International Studies, Cambridge University; and Penne Kehl, Group President of Cargill Agriculture and Trading, APAC; Hanneke Faber, Logitech's Global CEO, will join a discussion on the theme "New Paths of Open Cooperation in Global Economic Rebalancing."
