2026 marks the 25th anniversary of China’s accession to the WTO. Over the past 25 years, China has fully implemented its WTO accession commitments, actively integrated into the global trading system, and deeply embedded itself in global value chains. In this process, China has not only accelerated its own development but also made important contributions to global development. The parallel session of the 9ᵗʰ HongQiao Forum, “The 25th Anniversary of China’s Accession to the WTO: Openness, Integration and Development”, will be held on the afternoon of November 5, 2026, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). The event is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China and organized by Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.

The parallel session will feature keynote speeches and panel discussions. The panel discussions are divided into two parts: “Universally Beneficial and Inclusive Economic Globalization: China’s Practice and Its Global Impact” and “The WTO: Shared Vision and Innovative Development”. This parallel session will bring together representatives from government, business, and academia to have discussions. Participants will review China’s valuable experience in opening-up and international cooperation over the past 25 years since its accession to the WTO, share opportunities for global development arising from China’s integration into global value chains, examine the important role of the WTO and its rules in global economic governance, identify the challenges it faces and explore the direction of reform.
