Cooperation for Development: Global Agricultural Trade and Rural Revitalization
Introduction

Despite rapid urbanization worldwide, over 40% of the global population still live in rural areas. A yawning divide between the thriving cities and the left-behind countryside is positioning the world off track in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the 2030 Agenda, in particular the one on Zero Hunger. In this context, rural revitalization has become a practical approach to accelerating rural development and bridging the rural-urban gap. As pointed out by Chinese President Xi Jinping, a nation can only thrive when its rural communities are revitalized. Globally, agricultural trade is crucial to and mutually reinforcing with the rural revitalization process of all countries. As such, this forum focuses on global agricultural trade and rural revitalization with the aim of contributing to international cooperation in agricultural trade and investment, the international dialogue on rural development, and the attainment of the SDGs.
